I've had my current set of glasses for probably about 4 years now, and I still love them, but they're starting to get a bit worn. This is what they look like in all of their orange and purple glory:
I received a notice last week that a website my eye doctor had recommended, Clearly Contacts was having a great sale. Since I had a current prescription, and knew that these glasses probably wouldn't last a whole lot longer, I decided to take advantage of the sale, and ordered a new pair of glasses, paying $71 for everything, including anti glare coating, UV coating, anti-scratch coating, and shipping.
They arrived early in the week and I excitedly put them on and discovered I couldn't see through them. A quick call to my eye doctor confirmed that he had written the prescription down incorrectly. There's a difference between -2.25 and +2.25! I called Clearly Contacts, wondering what would happen, and they were great! They sent me a return shipping label (with the shipping at their expense) for the glasses I'd received, and re-placed the order, at the same price, but with the correct prescription, telling me the new glasses would arrive in about a week. They arrived three days later! I will most definitely be ordering from this company again - their prices and service were fantastic and I was thrilled with the glasses I ordered, which were a good size fit, thanks to the ability to match your existing glasses with new frames of comparable size on their website.
And now, the grand reveal! This is my newest set of eyes. They're a black frame with purple undertones, and arms that sparkle bright purple in the light, and I definitely love them!

Daily 5 - Day 252
Today's Daily 5:
- Coffee with a new friend today. I love telling Jesus stories and this was a coffee (albeit one that was too short) full of them.
- Back at house church tonight for the first time in about three weeks. It was so good to be back.
- laughing, eating, talking, sharing, and praying for and with each other
- cuddling a baby
- wearing my twirling skirt today
- clean bill of health at the eye doctor (and I get to shop for new glasses!)
- Having the freedom of a car to get myself to and from my appointment and house church and coffee date today
- feeling like I am a welcome part of a community of believers again
- Rob Bell teaching. Really any Rob Bell teaching.
- Filtered water. I know I write this a lot, but I find myself incredibly thankful to have pure, healthy water readily available for drinking.

How Do You Communicate?
I liked the results of this one, probably because it's actually a fairly accurate descriptor of me.
You Communicate With Your Eyes |
When you say, "I'll believe it when I see it" - you really mean it. For you, what you see is a lot more important than what you hear. You don't take someone's words at face value. You judge people by their facial expressions, body language, and appearance. You tend to be quiet, but when you talk, you tend to make eye contact and describe things in colorful detail. |

The Aging Process
I had an unexpectedly amusing moment this morning while conferring with my eye doctor.
First, you should know that I've been seeing the same eye doctor since I first started wearing glasses at age 11. He specializes in lazy eyes (which I have in my left eye) and does a great job, so I keep going back. He was old and slightly odd when I was 11, and he's exactly the same now. Old and slightly odd. The same slight social awkwardness and stutter. The same overly bookish and intellectual nature that makes you think he'd be perfectly at home if he really didn't ever have to talk with another human being ever again. And a refusal to wear bifocals, so he's constantly tugging his own glasses on and off while trying to read the fine print on the dials of his various machines.
I was there to see him for the annual check-up, and to discuss a minor concern I'd had about the vision in my good eye. He explained to me what caused the small floating spot in the vision that had concerned me, and assured me that it was nothing to worry about. His choice of words, however, made me crack up.
"It's part of the aging process."
Oh, that made me laugh when I was free of the confines of the dim little examining room in his office!
If I'm experiencing the "aging process" at 25, what will it be like when I'm the perpetually "old" person that he seems to be?!?!

Hmm..
I need today to go well.
There are things happening today that I would really like to have go well.
But I'm peaceful at the moment, and for that I'm grateful.
I'm wearing my "alternate eyes" today. The more corporate and conservative ones instead of the usual purple and orange ones. When I bought two new sets of eyes last spring, I really thought it would be the conservative ones that I'd wear all the time. It isn't. I wear them maybe once a month. And today is that day.
I put an emerald in my nose today. I read somewhere that emeralds have long been a "symbol of hope". So today, in defiance of the odds, I'm choosing hope. And demonstrating it sneakily, with an emerald in my nose.

Eyes to See...
I liked this quote on Hope's blog today:
"When we can see the image of God where we don't want to see the image of God, then we see with eyes not our own." (Richard Rohr, "Everything Belongs")
