Last Things (And Maybe New Ones?)

I'm teaching my last Sunday school lessons this morning. I'll be so glad to be finished. This has been a necessary season - one in which I've quite possibly been more struck, convicted, and taught by the lessons I've been teaching than my students have. But I'll be glad to see it draw to a close.

I think I'm spending the afternoon with a young friend... Whatever we do, I need for it to be creative. I'm needing to find ways to express my heart that are voiceless, as the words are not coming again.

I'm hoping we'll end up either in a park, by the river, or perhaps in Kensington.

It's time for new things. Time to take steps that let me move on from some of the spaces I've occupied in this season.

So.

Creativity.

An emerald in my nose.

A twirling skirt worn over capri pants, and cute ballet flats (even though they give me blisters).

A scarf instead of a jacket.

Fun earrings.

Color.

Joy.

Life.

(and secreted away in my purse some reminders. stones. and a shell or two.)

Dilemmas

I have two dilemmas tonight.

The first involves buying glasses. I went out tonight to look at my options. Do I buy slightly more funky and colorful, or slightly less funky and neutral? Keep in mind that I only buy new glasses about once every five years, and that I wear my glasses all the time (first thing I put on in the morning, last thing I take off at night.)

The second involves Sunday school tomorrow morning. I'm teaching. My class has three sixteen year old girls. The lesson from the book that I'm scheduled to teach is a presentation of the salvation message. The book is designed for large youth groups, with a mixture of Christian and non-Christian kids. I have three girls, all of whom I've known since they were born, all of whom are dedicated followers of Christ. Not really sure what I'm going to do about that.

Thoughts?

Good Intentions

I had really great intentions of getting some much thought about pieces of writing accomplished today, but they were waylaid with people stuff.

I had coffee with one of my youth girls this morning. She leaves bright and early tomorrow morning for Germany to go to Bible school for the next year. It was great to have a chance to hear her heart and pray for her as she goes.

While I was still with her, another friend, with whom I've been trying to reconnect for several months called me and wanted to know if I was free today. I immediately accepted the invitation and we spent the afternoon doing some errands together and catching up on everything that's happened in each other's lives in the year since we were last together at her wedding. So special, and we parted with promises to see each other much more frequently in the coming year. She's also fluent in Spanish, and has promised to email me a translation of the Lord's prayer. I learned to pray the Lord's prayer in Spanish in high school, and have done so often in the intervening years, but somewhere along the way lost my printed copy of it, and forgot the last half of the prayer. I'm rather delighted to know that the remainder of the prayer will be arriving in my inbox shortly!

I need to go prep for Sunday school tomorrow morning, so that's it for tonight. Tomorrow I'm hoping to accomplish the writing and other things that didn't get done today.

I'm dreaming of really fun and deep and beautiful things these days. I feel like life has been reawakened in me in the last couple weeks. Someday soon I'll share those things!
