A week out of whack

Things started out so well with blogging last week, and then went downhill.  You may or may not have noticed that my daily 5 posts were bunched together, and that Thursday and Friday's posts were missing entirely.

That was kind of the way my week went, too.

I started a new job, one that I already love, as a care aide for a disabled woman.  Most of my job involves getting her ready for and into bed at night.  I did a mid-week shift last week, my first on my own, and it didn't go smoothly.  It took double the amount of planned time, and I arrived home at 3:00 am, slept for 2.5 hours and then got up to head to school for a half-day of classes.

That event threw my whole week out of whack, and instead of using the weekend to catch up the way I normally would, I spent most of the weekend at a bachelorette party for my sister-in-law to be.  We stayed up late, experienced a blizzard (yes, with snow, in June!), and then came back to the city for a lingerie shower with even more friends.

I worked last night, and again tonight (with the person who trained me back there to help smooth out all the wrinkles we bumped into last week), which means late nights. Not a great thing when I'm already so tired that I feel like I could cry.  But I'll get through them.

So, when Tuesday arrives, my only plan is to tackle some homework, and then plant myself in front of a television (or netflix!) and veg.  I'm very much looking forward to stealing a few hours for that on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, since next weekend will be fully occupied with my brother's wedding.  It's going to be lovely

Monday Confessions

Can I admit something to you?  I do much better at prescheduling and writing well thought out blog posts when my days are somewhat driven by schedule.  On those days, those busy school and work days, I write up to a week of posts in advance.  I think about them, I ponder them, and then I sit down on the weekend to write them.

I'm not good at keeping to that plan when I don't have a schedule.  I tell myself things like "look how much time there is, you can do it later" and then later comes and I repeat myself, until I find myself frantically staring at a to do list and realizing that the post I'd planned to write - the well thought out one that I'd been pondering, is not going to get written for the day I'd hoped to see it go live.

Today is one of those days.  I'm writing this post frantically, somewhat late on Sunday night, because I just realized that Monday is one of the days with posts that I can't quite just throw together, and I do actually have a schedule on this particular Monday.

I've agreed to spend the morning hanging out with one of my favorite small people, while her momma does some work.  But this particular small person and her parents live on the other side of the city, which neccessitates me catching a 6:17am bus to arrive on time for this hanging out gig.

And so, it's another Monday with a thrown together post, because I'm going to love on a small person, and I need to be awake to do it.  Fear not, however, I go back to school in only 9 more days, and then my life will resume it's previously scheduled structure and discipline!

Monday Luxuries

It's 10:20 am on Monday, and I've only been awake, really awake anyway, for 20 minutes.  This is not one of those days when I managed to figure out what I would say in this space ahead of time, and wrote it, scheduled it, and then fell asleep.

Today is Monday, a day with a few little luxuries, and I've only just woken up.

A day off, and sleeping in.  Those are luxuries.

A scheduled massage appointment - finally, and much needed.  That's a luxury too.

A free afternoon, with plans to tackle homework in a leisurely sort of way.  Another luxury.

A plan to share an evening with some friends.  To bring them a meal.  To play with their two year old, and cuddle their two-week old.  To laugh and share a meal - there is something that is wonderful and holy in sharing a meal.  These are all luxuries.

Today is Monday, and it is a day full fo little luxuries, and I am thankful.

Stunted

Folks, it's Monday, one of two days a week where I don't have previously scheduled series on this here blog.  One of the days where I usually try to write a nice long essay about things I've been pondering, or feeling, or experiencing.  But I'm pretty sure that barring some unforeseen miracle, that isn't going to happen in this space today.  I'm hoping to be back on Thursday with another instalment in the ongoing discussion about food and body and spirit, but I just don't have that in me today.

My brain feels stunted at the moment.

Group work at school has stepped up in volume and intensity as the end of the semester approaches and brings deadlines galor, and with the increase of work I feel my internal muse slowly grinding to a halt.  Remember the introvert video from Thursday?  Well, I've been spending somewhere between 20 and 25 hours a week doing intensive group work for the last ten weeks, and the wear on my poor introverted self is starting to show!

Life has been busy on the personal side too.  I've been puttering for hours every weekend at the house my brother and his wife purchased a little while ago, helping with anything from gutting some of the rooms to painting and even assembling kitchen cabinets.  I've been having fun doing it, too, spending this time with family, and working with my hands.  In the evenings I've been scurrying around trying to see a few friends, stay (sort of) on top of emails and blog reading, and keep up with the people I love who live far away.  I've continued to teach at house church, too, as we've made the leap into studying the book of Romans together.  Looking into the week ahead, there is more of the same on my schedule.

None of these things are bad.  (Actually, I take that back, adding more group work isn't something I'd class as good!)  But the combination of all of them means that the delicate balance of silence, stillness, and time alone that I rely on to keep my muse running at full capacity simply has not existed in recent weeks.

And so I don't have much to say today.  My muse feels just a bit stunted, and seems to have gone into hibernation, waiting for me to rework my schedule and/or reach the semester's end and settle into a space of rest again.  I'm hoping to carve out a bit of silence today, amidst two coffee dates with friends that always speak to the deeper parts of my spirit.  A bit of silence and soul-stirring conversation might be just what I need today.  I sure hope so, anyway!

I Meant To Write a Post

I meant to write a post for today.  One of the many on a list I've been keeping.

And then, well, time got away from me.

Instead of writing I was eating cheese melted in wine with tasty stuff added, and chocolate mixed with coconut milk at a fondue birthday party.

Instead of writing I did an overdue load of laundry.

Instead of writing I sat and made conversations, and helped in the kitchen.

Instead of writing I watched a bit of TV on DVD that made me laugh.

And now it's Monday (or Sunday night, rather, since I'm writing this quickly before heading to bed!) and I don't have the time or energy to write something all profound like.  So... Check back.  I'm switching some things up again this week.  Because I can, you know... and because I want this space to fit me, and I think the changes will help with that all over again.

So check back.  I'll be back tomorrow.  I promise!
