Daily 5 - Day 239

Today's Daily 5:
  1. Thankful that mom came with me to the work conference, and that she did the driving.  We're having a blizzard and that was a bit of a scary drive for the four hours or so that it took.
  2. Liking this being the conference organizer bit when it comes with a martini glass in my room full of strawberries and fancy chocolate
  3. Thankful for free internet in the hotel room
  4. Really just grateful to have made it safely here.  Glad we left when we did.  Apparently I was the only one on staff who made it up tonight. They eventually closed the road.
  5. The day went well, details came together, and right now it seems like we're going to actually pull this thing off!

Morning.

What I would have really liked to have for breakfast this morning was Mcdonald's.  A sausage and cheese mcgriddles, hold the egg, to be exact.  What I'm actually eating is a bowl of instant oatmeal.  There was no Mcdonalds in easy walking distance.

Today is the crazy final preparations for the conference.

I head to Edmonton late this afternoon, and tomorrow I welcome 300 Mennonites to a 5 Star hotel.  This is the fourth time I've done this, but the first time that I've been mostly in charge, and the first time we've done it in an urban setting - it's always been at a mountain resort in the years I've been doing it.  300 Mennonites, ranging in age from infant to probably well into their eighties, and ranging in practice from Old Colony to very modern city mennonite.

It's always a unique weekend.

And, I've been so busy this week that I haven't managed to schedule posts for the next several days, and likely won't get to it today.

So, it'll probably be quiet around here.  If I have internet access at the hotel, I'll try to log in with the daily 5 posts, but even those may have to wait.

I'm back later on Saturday evening.  I'll either see you then, or sometime on Sunday if I don't manage to check in before that!

Daily 5 - Day 238

Today's Daily 5:
  1. 2950 blog posts.  (Including 238 Daily 5 lists.)
  2. Semi-major last minute conference crisis averted at work
  3. Splitting a couple of appetizers for a light dinner with a long-time friend.  Our relationship has changed a lot over the years, but there's still something nice about spending time with someone who knows the longer-term history and wants to hang out anyway.  Something about the comfort and acceptance in that is freeing, I think.
  4. Found a glass water bottle - one that won't be recalled this time.
  5. Packed for the work conference.  Not a lover of packing, but glad to get it done quickly and simply tonight.

What Kind of Garden...

Life remains crazy busy.  Work and home.  I'm hoping to write a "real" post later today.  In the meantime, this morning I took the "What kind of garden are you?" quiz and the results were sort of accurate and made me chuckle.

You Are a Formal French Garden

You are formal, traditional, and probably quite upper class. You resist change unless it's absolutely necessary.

You prefer quality over quantity in your life - whether it's people or possessions. You have a low tolerance for junk.

You are detail oriented and a bit of a perfectionist. You enjoy planning and getting everything in order.

You are neat and clean. You take good care of what you own - you are big on maintenance.
