Everest in the news

One of the religion teachers from my high school was the first Canadian to summit Mt. Everest twice. Last I heard he's now a provincial MLA. Mr. Rodney was always fun to have around the school, and ever since that time, headlines about Mt. Everest have caught my attention. Even more so since a good friend of mine spent some time in Nepal, and came home with photos of Everest taken from a plane tour, and looking stately, displaying it's own weather system.

So, this headline caught my attention today:

Brothers Plan 24 Hours Atop Everest.

Interesting that you post this news story on "Of all the liars..." because Pemba Dorje is a big one.

He faked his two ostensible Everest world records. Guinness will not accept his claim because there is ZERO proof. The Nepalese Government accepts his claim because of connected relatives.

The Everest record holder is Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa (Apa Sherpa's cousin).

When Pemba Dorje returned to Everest to make a 'substantiated' record claim, he left from Camp II at night (which is normal). But other Sherpas found him hiding in an abandoned tent, planning to 'return' in record time. He has been to the summit three times claiming a world record. There has never been any timing, nor witnesses, to those summits, and the last two were done in storm conditions where no one else was above 22,000 feet - 7,000 below the summit.

While Pemba Dorje briefly held the record before Lhakpa Gelu broke it two days later, in 2003, his two 'record' attempts since then have both been frauds.

Which goes to show just how hard the MSM researches their facts. The BBCs Kathmandu reporter is clearly a clueless tool.
